Wall Street English CEO Outlines Growth Potential of Adult English Language Market at EducationInvestor Asia Summit 2019

On Thursday 16th May David Kedwards, Wall Street English CEO, delivered a keynote address at the EducationInvestor Asia Summit 2019, outlining the value and future potential of adult English language teaching (ELT) for both prospective investors and for the future prospects of learners.

During his keynote address, Kedwards highlighted the substantial investment opportunity in Asia’s education markets, with English being the working language of the ASEAN bloc – home to more than 600 million people.

Drawing on new, independent research by YouGov, commissioned by Wall Street English, Kedwards highlighted the demand growth for ELT with more than half the population of China, India and Indonesia likely to take an English language course within the next 5 years. This means that there could be potentially 631 million new English learners in Asia.

The research also valued the global market, worth in excess of US$28 billion in 2017 and forecast to grow to more than $50 billion by 2023. Population growth, urbanization, mobility and advanced connectivity were identified as key market growth drivers of this trend.

The speech also highlighted concern for investors focused primarily on the promise of low-cost high-volume solutions, concluding that this would be better invested with a focus on methodologies which deliver proven results and quality in the long term. With multiple territory franchise opportunities available across the globe with Wall Street English, Kedwards focussed on the benefits of choosing a business model which provides a strong return on investment through a proven and scalable concept while leveraging local market operators’ experience. This was further emphasised as the Wall Street English model saw over $4.5 million of new investments and 27 center openings in 2018.

In his speech, David Kedwards, concluded: “English is the dominant language of global business and politics and is further accelerating as a result of globalisation and connectivity. Our new research is validation that demand for English language learning is on the rise. What’s interesting is that consumers are aware that proficiency is becoming more essential.

“With a pool of 1.4 billion, this market is ripe for investment. From Chile to China, Wall Street English is an ideal partner to help our expanding network to implement our tried and trusted blended method whilst generating significant business benefits.”
